Hull # 16 in the Swan 42 Class, ARETHUSA is a stunning example of Swan’s mission to create a fast one-design racer with offshore capabilities along with clean lines and smart interior for performance cruising or day sailing.
Arethusa is a one owner yacht that has competed very successfully in 42 class and IRC handicap regattas along the East Coast as well as Caribbean. She is a two time 42 Class Nationals winner and East Coast Champion. In January 2014, ARETHUSA, set up in her IRC configuration, won a very competitive IRC class at Key West Race Week. In 2013 she won the inaugural Caribbean Swan Cup and was overall boat of the week at Antigua Sailing Week winning the prestigious Lord Nelson Trophy. She placed first in the 2009 NYYC Invitational where she competed against 20 teams from all over the world in CS42’s. Arethusa is one of the most successful 42’s ever campaigned in One Design and IRC racing.
Always captain maintained, ARETHUSA is equipped with Simrad electronics, Ockam wind instruments w/ carbon 5-display mast pod, B&G autopilot system, everything linked to Panasonic laptop and tablet. Harken deck hardware, Hall spars, and all North sail inventory. The sails list is quite extensive and includes a full set for Class racing, full set for IRC, and a suit for cruising/day sailing. ALL racing sails are from the last three years with most less than two years old.
ARETHUSA is one of the only CS42’s to be fitted with a symmetric spinnaker pole coupled with a short sprit to optimize rating and IRC performance. The result has been a highly successful handicap racer, winning IRC East Champs 2012 as well as the events mentioned above.
Hull and deck was repainted with Awlgrip with custom non-skid on decks. Fresh varnish and Awlgrip clear coat below. Volvo saildrive recently overhauled as well as regular scheduled maintenance all done by certified Volvo technician. Bottom was professionally faired to class templates and sprayed with Baltoplate race antifouling. Wet sanded and burnished to a high-polish shine. Brand new JP3 rudder bearing installed and ALL four main cabin windows re-bedded and re-sealed in Oct. 2013.
In addition to the Class hardware setup, she features a custom carbon bowsprit, Hall carbon spin pole (symmetric), custom cabin top winches, top end running rigging, and additional gear for offshore handicap racing. A Reckman carbon roller furling headstay for short-handed sailing.
No expense was spared in keeping ARETHUSA as competitive as possible. Extras are very extensive including a spare bow sprit (retractable), spare mast jacks and pump, spare hydraulic backstay ram, spare Harken Carbofoil, spare running rigging, custom carbon weather boards, carbon chafe plates, carbon backstay gauge, and tons of spare hardware.
ARETHUSA is also equipped with custom foam-padded canvas covers for mast, boom, rudder, and headstay along with anodized aluminum mast cradles. All the gear needed for trucking and shipping. Comes with boat and keel cradles as well.
